One of my least favorite anti-virus program is McAfee…when a friend brings over a computer that has it installed, I promptly remove and replace it with an alternative free for personal use antivirus program (AVG, Avast).
In a situation reminiscent of white blood cells attacking blood platelets unnecessarily, causing a lowered immune system, McAfee recently released an anti-virus update that attacks critical Windows files, wiping out the operating system, resulting in blue screens of death or no internet access.
You can try the esoteric solution shared here to “fix” the problem.
