Tatango Invite

Via email, I received this invitation:

I stumbled across your blog and I saw that you were interested in
technology in the classroom and I wanted to tell you a little about our
website, http://www.tatango.com
which allows a group to send out text messages (soon to be voice calls)
to all their members at the same time from their computer or mobile
phone. We actually have a good amount of teachers using the service to
send text messages to their students about homework, reminder etc.

I have sent you a beta invitation, please let us know your feedback if
you get a chance.

I see that Vicki Davis (CoolCatTeacher) has tweeted about Tatango–and blogged
about it here
–so she must have gotten an invite, too:

Sign up for updates and tips on teaching with technology,
inspiration, and cool new tools. You will receive no more than one text
message per day. This service is currently being beta tested, so please
provide your feedback. http://coolcatteacher.blog

Does Vicki know her blog address is cut off in the description for the
group? I’ll have to point that out…it should be http://coolcatteacher.blogspot.com

I have to confess that after getting that big phone bill from AT&T
because we didn’t have unlimited messaging turned on–and the kids and
spouse thought we did–I’m a bit gun-shy when it comes to messaging from
my phone. In fact, my phone is one of those where texting isn’t that
fun…no easy to use keyboard, and it’s a pain to sort through every
single letter. That’s why I like Jott.com
(leave text messages to individuals AND groups via audio that is
converted to text) and Oh Don’t
Forget
(I use this every day to send text messages to other people’s
phones for free) so much.

Tatango though seems a different animal than Jott. But I probably won’t
know…the request for a password failed on my "old" phone (2 years).
While AT&T is supported, it may
be that other services aren’t
, or that the service is running slow,
or whatever.
