Recently, someone shared with me how important it was to revise a school district’s acceptable use policy. But revise is to mild a word…rethink is more what I’m looking for. For fun, I’ve started a draft that I might use, adapting components from different places. I started with Woodward Academy’s AUP but after watching the presentation from Henry Barnett, it’s in for some major revision. I’d love some feedback from the Texas crew on what they’re using.
As I consider various AUPs, I’m reminded of the distinction one presenter made about AUPs being a list of UNacceptable Use, rather than what is acceptable.
Another question I have to consider is how does one reflect eRate and Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requirements in the AUP? In partial response to my own question, I found a variety of resources, some of which were helpfully shared by the twitterverse.
Above, please find a diagram I made to organize the different components. Some of the other useful sites suggested:
- Informative slidecast by Henry Barnett on CIPA components and formatting of AUP
- Critiquing AUPs by Dave Kinnaman
- Caroline Obannon’s Diigo links
- School AUP by David Warlick
- CyberSafety from the CTAP4 (this was a great resource of content and included some Nancy Willard articles like, How to Respond to Cyberbullying, that were fun to read).
- Acceptable Use Policies from CTAP4
