Spend any time on your Macbook, and you may soon have the need to take a break. Although choosing the right game to play is really a reflection of what makes you tick (e.g. shoot ’em up or tetris-like game) and get your blood pumping, I thought I’d share some of my favorites. If you have other suggestions, please drop them in the comments! I tried to share the FREE games I play–where “free” means no-cost, rather than free like in “free open source software”–rather than ones that cost money, but I did mention one or two that I purchased.
These games don’t compare to more modern games like Halo or Command and Conquer, but are fun nonetheless.
- Chopper (free) – like the old Choplifter game, if you recall. Reminded me of Rescue Raiders on the Apple //e. They now have a 1.1 version for $15 that boasts better graphics.
- Battle for Wesnoth (free, open source)
- Barrage – this game is addictive! Reminded me of the old Apple //e game, Sabotage. In this one, you try to blow up soldiers, tanks, and jeeps. Lots of fun and a quick download.
- Wingnuts ($30)– truly addictive but it costs money. I admit it, I bought it.
- Deep Trouble ($25) – submarine game that’s pretty fun. I bought version 1 of this game a few years ago and was addicted through the Christmas holidays.
I’m sure there are lots of other games that work just fine on the Macbook, but these are a few that I play when I just want to do something mindless (aside from blogging ). Do you have any YOU play?
