This morning, I received this inquiry:
Do you know of an application that is easy to install and easy to use that will allow me to share excel files with others in the district? I want multiple people to add or change a spreadsheet remotely.
My first temptation was to encourage them to use GoogleDocs, maybe getting a domain for GoogleApps…after all, it’s nifty, you can restrict usage to just folks logging in with their district email account, you can add collaborators and/or viewers, publish the data easily, etc.
But then some other ideas popped in…maybe a wiki spreadsheet was desirable? And, would it be something you could purchase and host locally? Or should it be free?
- EditGrid – commercial but free for personal use.
- WikiCalc 1.0 – Cross between a wiki and spreadsheet…watch the video demo
- NumSum – no commercial version yet apparently but free.
- JotSpot Spreadsheet
What’s most promising? Not sure…WikiCalc looks interesting for now. Know of any others?
