In re-reading old stuff, I ran across Sheryl’s TechLearning.com blog entry on Professional Development 2.0. What a delightful read! No, it was downright TERRIFIC!
As I read this stuff, my brain started firing off how I should adapt my stand-and-deliver presentation. Some of the points that were particularly annoying and crying out to be written down include the following:
1) Using wikis to build a collaborative space.
2) Use the wiki as a way to enable my folks in San Antonio get to know folks from wherever they might be. One of the key lessons is global communication and collaboration, the power of peer production. The wiki is also a great example of an organizational tool, so as to accomplish the following. I really see THIS entry as a list of what to do before Friday, so forgive me for taking notes and modifying Sheryl’s original post…in some cases, I’m stealing verbatim! “Sheryl,” he said, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” ).
- Access the workshop goals
- Enable co-development of professional learning curriculum
- Provide equitable access to online resources and materials
- Facilitate collaboration rather than individuals inhabiting the same space
3) Building Online Learning Communities: One of the challenges in thinking different, acting different in schools is that we’re enmeshed, wrapped-up in the culture around us. I hope that by inviting folks in from all over the place–I still need folks, so please Tweet or email me if you can help for an hour or so on July 27th–we’ll be able to change perspectives. I would love to have folks participate in what Sheryl termed a Virtual Speed Dating-Web 2.0 Discussion.
