TEA Update 12/19/2009

Received this in an email yesterday…shares updates on Ed-Tech, Internet Safety, and Public School Library needs.

Educational Technology Update

The Progress Report on the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020 is available at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/comm/leg_reports/2008/08pr_to_lrpt.pdf. Included is information and data that addresses how the recommendations in the Long-Range Plan for Technology have been addressed from the time period of September 1, 2008-August 31, 2008. As a part of the progress report, there is an interim report on the Technology Immersion Pilot (TIP) and the Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN) as well as updates on all statewide educational technology initiatives.

Internet Safety Website

During the 80th Legislative Session, House Bill 3171, Section 38.023, required the Texas Education Agency to develop and make available to school districts a list of resources addressing Internet Safety. Resources are available on the TEA Internet Safety website: http://www.tea.state.tx.us/imet/intersafe. There are resources for students, educators, and parents. This website is important as more students use the Internet in the classroom and at home.

Public School Library Needs

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the Texas Education Agency were directed by the 80th Legislature to conduct a study of public school libraries. To read the new report with recommendations and data from schools, visit http://www.tea.state.tx.us/imet/libraries.
