Transcript Liability

Howdy, now that many of us are using a learning management system–as defined here–to track professional learning that staff are participating in, are you aware of there being any liability for releasing that information? Here is a fictional scenario based on a true event:

“Hi! My name is Drusilla Dennison and I worked for the District 3 years ago and I’ve lost copies of my proof of attendance at workshops. Would you be able to send me a copy of a transcript that lists workshops I attended and successfully completed?”
“Yes, I can release that to you. Where would you like me to send that information?”
“Please send it to my Hotmail account, dennigirl@hotmail.com”

Is there liability for the District resulting from sending information that includes name of participant, workshop title, completion status, and hours earned to this person?

Note: The name and email in the scenario are made up. Any resemblance to living persons is purely accidental and unintentional.
