Lori Gracey (Bastrop ISD) and Miguel Guhlin (San Antonio ISD) were recipients of the Making IT Happen Award at the TEC-SIG Luncheon in Austin, Tx today. (Read the official announcement at TCEA web site). It was truly an honor to share the stage with her, and I’m jazzed about having been honored in this way.
Personally I was thrilled to share the stage with Lori. I am grateful to TCEA and TEC-SIG Membership for their wonderful support of Texas educators struggling against powers and principalities to improve teaching, learning and leading environmens through the strategic application of technology in K-12!
Most importantly, I’m deeply grateful to my wife, children (and my parents) for their encouragement and support. I am also grateful to San Antonio ISD, especially the Technology Department, for always taking the time to share their wisdom and support.
I hope Around the Corner Readers won’t mind me sharing this moment with you…not for acclamation but because we share with those close to us.
UPDATE: Video by Tim Holt (Intended Consequences). Thanks, Tim!!

At the Technology Education Coordinators’ Group (TEC-SIG) meeting held at the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) 2009 State Conference, I was awarded one of the two coveted “Making IT Happen” jackets. The Making IT Happen Award is described in this way:
Making IT Happen is an internationally recognized awards program for educators in the field of educational technology integration in K–12 schools. The program identifies and rewards educational technology leaders around the world for their commitment and innovation.
History. Making IT Happen has been recognizing outstanding educators since 1995. Learn more about the story behind the program.
Criteria. Review the eight components of the Formula of Success.
List of Recipients. Browse the prestigious group of honorees, including classroom teachers, school principals, district superintendents, legislators, governors, and even a former Secretary of Education.
Click to watch the video of my receiving the Award (although you could just as easily argue that this is a comedy because it took me about 20 tries to get the jacket on!). Nevertheless, I was honored to be one of the two award recipients in Texas for 2009.
UPDATE 02/12/2009: Removed the video (but left a link) because it auto-played…sheesh, how annoying!
