PBS Teacherline Courses Now Count towards Texas SBEC CPE hours

Exciting news…I know we have licensed several PBS TeacherLine courses–re-worked for use in Moodle–and this just adds to the effect of having quality online courses on hand.

The Texas State Board for Educator Certification has approved all PBS TeacherLine courses to count towards the required 150 CPE every five years.

Other exciting information…

PBS TeacherLine Significant Impact Results Highlighted in EETT Study

Results of a new research study showing significant positive impact findings from PBS TeacherLine courses was just published in the Winter 2009 edition of the Journal of Computing in Teacher Education.

This research was funded through an Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) federal grant that was awarded to the Consortium for Interactive Instruction (CII), anchored by WHRO. Through this grant, teachers in any of the 18 school divisions that make up the consortium were offered the chance to enroll in PBS TeacherLine courses. An evaluation ensued that identified changes in participant attitudes over time by tracking and comparing participants’ “stages of concern” before and after completing a PBS TeacherLine course. The study also looked at whether age and gender were factors in levels of concern.

Some Qualitative Highlights

“All interviewees expressed that they had learned many new computer and Internet skills and had learned about online resources and instructional strategies, which made them more capable of technology integration.”

“In terms of the resultant impact of the course on participants’ students, many interviewees reported that their students became more interested in and skillful with technology as a result of becoming more capable technology consumers.”

“A considerable number of interviewees shared the notion that technology expands the traditional teaching materials and conventional instructional procedures, allowing teachers to have more alternative approaches, which make the teaching/learning process more productive and appealing to students.”

“They repeatedly articulated that whenever technology was incorporated into instruction, students would become more motivated, enthusiastic, focused, attentive, and interactive in the learning process.”
