Bloom’s Taxonomy Triangle and DigiGogy

Wow, love this triangle…it’s so colorful (wink)…seriously, what a fascinating idea. Thanks to Kobus van Wyk for pointing out Fisher’s DigiGogy. Fisher writes:

Lasst night on Twitter, I began discussing the idea of a 21st century frame around Bloom’s, where individual apps are identified within the Bloom’s schema–partly to continue to analyze how things fit together, but also to discover that the tiers are not so neatly separated anymore.

Through conversation, I found that there needs to be a new visual that connects tiers to each other while still showing the differentiation of skills associated with learning 21st century applications. I created a wiki at http://visualblooms.wikispaces.com to continue the collaboration and I’m posting an excerpt of the twitter conversation here. I’m really enjoying how multiple tools and multiple perspectives come together to create a bigger idea than what I had originally intended.

Now…for fun and in a way that adds little to the conversation, how many of these are blocked in K-12 schools? Based on my experiences….

  1. Seems like a somewhat dangerous way to categorize things. I know you (Miguel) have said, and I have always professed that it is not the tool that teachers the student, but how the student (as motivated by a teacher or self) uses that tool. Couldn’t most all of these tools be placed at any level? Creation/Synthesis is not about creating a product, but about generating new knowledge after analyzing it and evaluating it. I know that you know this, but I see this misconception on a regular basis. Correlating a tool to a Blooms level seems to add to that problem, not alleviate it. Maybe THAT’s why Chris is moving away from ‘technology’ and towards ‘innovation’. ;)To summarize: It is NOT about the tool. It’s all about the teaching and learning how to teach better.
