Tech Fiesta 2009
“Future Visions”
When? April 16-17, 2009 ; 8:00-4:30 PM
Most of the sessions for TechFiesta 2009 are now posted (draft copy). Obviously, the incomparable Dr. Tim Tyson will be presenting. Here’s a description:
Find out how Dr. Tyson made learning irresistible at Mabry Middle School and earned the prestigious School of Distinction Award for Technology Innovation.
Speaker: Dr. Tim Tyson – drtimtyson.com
There are also a few other sessions going on…here are some for which I have NO bias for out of a long list (which appears in PDF! sigh):
Fostering Collaborative Conversations with Online LiteratureStudents of all ages engage in critical thinking and reflection as they read, discuss and respond to books collaboratively using Moodle as safe Web 2.0 community tool.
Online Course Facilitation: Developing Skills for 21st Century Learning
Online facilitators take on many important roles and wear different managerial, technical, social, and pedagogical hats. Th is session will introduce you to these roles as well as to an initiative that SAISD has imp lemented with PBS TeacherLine.
Facilitator: Tonya Mills, San Antonio ISD
Moodle Habitudes – Constructing Online Learning Environments
Shares SAISD’s journey towards building an OLE. Presentation engages audience around conversation on these topics: 1) Managing your Moodle installation; 2) Expanding the Capabilities of Moodle; 3) Moodle Modules and Tips; 4) Finding development tools.
Facilitators: Miguel Guhlin and Tonya Mills, San Antonio ISD
Ok that aside, one of the nifty ideas is how to best maximize exposure to a Conference. I’ve written about this before but here are some ideas that come to mind…I’m recommending them to TechFiesta organizers:
- Set up a Moodle for the conference
- Set up Twitter BackChannel
- Assign a hashtag for Twitter and tag for blog entries, Flickr Photos, Diigo/Delicious, etc.
- Encourage podcasting and vidcasting by handing out digital audio recorders and FLIP video cameras
- Assign a blogger/podcaster to every session and enable them to upload the session recording to Moodle using Podcast Module
- Setup a meta-course for registrations and general forum, with other courses for each type of session (maybe lump all the Moodle sessions together and give them each a topic). This will simplify registrations later…you just have people sign up for the meta-course and everyone gets signed up for the sub-courses.
- One massive RSS feed for stuff flowing from Twitter, Flickr, MoodleForums, etc.
- Interview conference speakers (5 minutes, tops) with video or audio and post immediately online without editing…you can always do that later.
