Out of the Rut

Lots of people hit the wall and fall into a rut. You’re tired creatively. You don’t feel like you’re coming up with fresh ideas. You feel unmotivated. Stale. Bored. Uninspired. The good thing about it is that you can always DO something to change it …

Whether you’re stuck in a rut or not, here are my top 5 picks from Seth Godin’s post on Can you Change Everything? The only thing that bothers me is, what if my best isn’t good enough?

  1. Publish your best work for free online
  2. Answer the customer service line for a day
  3. Learn to be a killer presenter
  4. Delete your website and start over with the simplest possible site
  5. Quit your job

But what would I do in a K-12 setting? Hmm…here’s my possible list. What would you add?

  • Tell schools the truth about themselves – visit campuses for 2-3 hours per day and blog about what you see.
  • Make a list of mundane tasks and get them done within 48 hours.
  • Figure out what schools need and then spend your budget providing it, whether it’s hardware, software, and professional learning opportunities.
  • Go talk to people you haven’t spoken to about using technology to harness people power and find out what their needs are.
  • Read something new every day, no matter how tired you are.
