Having seen a tweet about limiting the people you follow, I decided to give it a try and use Untwollow to unsubscribe from about 1400 people I was following. My target number was about 150 but no way to accomplish that. I’d been subscribing to anyone who followed me but realized that I didn’t need to…I can still follow anyone who tweets at me just by creating a custom search that tells me. This has given me a bit more freedom in creating search lists and not having to scan hundreds of tweets that were flowing in…while I have likened the experience to dipping your hand into a swiftly moving stream, I am enjoying the slower pace of incoming tweets.
For example, using Nambu per @willrich45’s suggestion at TEC-SIG Presentation, I’ve setup a series of Tweet Searches about stuff I find interesting. Ah well, I’ll see how it works out. The amazing thing is that there’s no shortage of good stuff to learn….
In the meantime, MoodleGirl shares this video about Twitter:

I’ve been wrestling with this same issue, Miguel. At this point I have reconciled things by using TweetDeck. I still have the river of Tweets coming in from the many, many Twitterers that I followed-back, but I also setup a group of about 200 of my core Twitter buddies. This group’s feed is situated 2nd in my TweetDeck tray. This allows me to view the river of info from everyone I follow or the smaller stream of info from my closer Twitter friends according to the amount of time that I have available. I also have customized searches, replies, and PMs in my TweetDeck. Thanks for sharing your strategy for dealing with this tough issue. It was a timely post for me. I just haven’t been able to bring myself to unfollow so many fellow educators…at least not yet. 🙂
