Random Acts of Citizen-Journalism

On the way to see Star Trek today, I saw a bumper stick: “Random Acts of AWESOME,” as opposed to the more familiar “Random Acts of Kindness.” Random acts of awesome may be a simplistic way of conceiving of citizen-journalism. However, if you’re not sure what’s involved, consider reading Huffington Post’s list of guidelines to convert blogger habits into citizen-journalism:

  1. Just the facts
  2. Avoiding hearsay
  3. Omit irrelevant opinion
  4. Plagiarism and giving credit
  5. Spelling and grammar
  6. Integrity of photographs
  7. Always identify yourself
  8. Identifying sources
  9. Fact-check your sources
