When Joel Draper tweeted this link to EasyWPInstall, I was a bit skeptical:
Traditionally to install WordPress you would have to download the archive, extract it to your computer, upload over 600 files to your website, and then set up your databases, etc.
EasyWP takes all this pain an complexity out of installing WordPress by automating the whole process.
Easy WP is a single php file that automatically downloads the latest version of WordPress to your server, extracts the archive (on your server), and takes you to the built in WordPress setup process.
Since I’m working on my Mac, I decided to just go ahead and run MAMP and go for it…I downloaded the file, then pointed my browser to the appropriate directory on http://localhost/easy then clicked on the easywp.php file.
So, I clicked the button and off we went…and nothing happened. It just sat there, a blank screen. When I checked the directory, I saw that it had downloaded a zip file but…since nothing happened, I wondered if maybe the folder permissions were off. For fun, I adjusted them:
The change is that “everyone” has Read/Write privileges…not necessarily good. Again, I tried the process again and nothing.
So, this didn’t work for me…and with no error messages, at this point, it would probably have been easier to do the full WordPress install. Ah well. I’ll have to try it out on GNU/Linux OS and see what happens.
