One of my favorite games–and my daughter, who at the time, sat on one knee–to play Slithereens! It was a great game…the expression, “Tastes like chicken!,” which is part of the game play is one of those strange sentences that found its way into our daily lives. This blog entry documents my epic journey to restore the smile Slithereens brings to my daughter. Will it work? Who knows….
Unfortunately, Ambrosia Software stopped developing Slithereens and it’s stuck perpetually at Mac OS 9…it’s just not compatible with OS X. And, I’m now running Snow Leopard (wow, talk about an easy upgrade with improvements of speed, looks, etc…I’m still booting to Fluxbox on the UbuntuLinux side but Snow Leopard has made my 2 gig RAM, Intel Macbook a bit snappier with some nice features).
With Snow Leopard OS X running, the question is, how to get Slithereens running again?
Here are some of the resources that one needs:
- Run Mac OS 9 on OS X computer – Instructions
- Get SheepShaver and everything else you need using this link – From the discussion group: “The WordPerfect/Mac discussion group has put together an installer for SheepShaver with all the necessary components, with instructions, and it even includes a copy of WordPerfect/Mac (which you can, of course, just trash if you don’t want it).”
Nope…didn’t work. The best advice I’ve read it to buy a vintage Mac and do it that way. Memories are all that remain….
