What I like about Carla’s post is that it’s intro level use of Moodle that I can see lots of teachers gravitating towards. While I’d hope that teachers would build more interactive lesson activities using Hot Potatoes or some other module, this is one place where folks start. Thanks, Carla!!

Moodle: Making the Most of a Digital Worksheet

Moodle makes it easy for students to access worksheets independently: teachers can either link to the file or create one using the Web or text editor. Students can hand them in via the assignment module.
-
- review causes and effects contributing to the plot,
- examine how Shakespeare compressed the action into just a few days,
- work either independently or with a partner, as they chose,
- produce something I could hold them accountable for
My students were finishing a unit on Romeo and Juliet, and I wanted an activity that would have students do several things:
-
I was pleased with the digital worksheet I uploaded to Moodle. Events were listed at the top of the page; students were to cut and paste them into the table at the bottom that indicated the days of the week. I gave the students class time to work this through and was surprised at the number who chose to work independently.
When they were finished, students could delete the directions, leaving them with a 1-page plot guide.
-
I could have handed out paper with a list of events and had kids number them in the correct sequence. By manipulating the text digitally, however, students created a quick review guide for later. They reduced a 2-page document to a 1-page document, saving some paper in the process. And we made better use of the digital tools at our disposal.
With Moodle, we’re not limited to text frozen on paper. What else can we do now that worksheets can be fluid?
