Texas Announces Competitive Grants Only

A colleague pointed out the following, something which was confirmed in a conversation with a TEA Director on Friday:

Anita Givens provided an update on Title IID funding at the TCEA conference. For the next school year, Title IID funding has been reduced. Texas will now receive $8.9 million…

With only $8.9 Million, Anita stated that TEA will NOT do formula funding for next year. All $8.9 million will now go to grants. Expect the grant to hit sometime late spring.

And, as previously announced, the President’s budget has once again zeroed out Title IID funding for future years.

In case you missed the significance of that middle paragraph, Title 2, Part D funding will PROBABLY be COMPETITIVE GRANTS ONLY due to the decreased amount of money available. This was confirmed in a conversation I had with a TEA director on Friday.

On your mark…get set…GO!!

Uh…no.

I’m reminded of this…thanks to Hugh MacLeod (Gaping Void) for sharing it!
