Although I don’t personally own an iPod, I couldn’t resist the urge to respond when a friend of the family asked, “How do I get my videos off my iPod?”

Since some gatherings tend to be boring, a few of us had fun exploring the possibilities of iPod ripping. Here are some of the theoretical suggestions that came up, but it was left to the individual to pursue them on their own. It ate up about 15 minutes, and was fun.

These are listed in order of recommended use…the first 2 are worth trying out first because they are free (no cost) and the last two will cost you money (so no pref on that pair).

1. SharePod – From their web site:
   Add and remove music, videos, playlists and artwork on your iPod.
   Backup all those tracks you just can’t lose onto your computer. Import them automatically into your iTunes library. SharePod can run straight from the iPod itself, so you can use it at work, school, home – wherever you and your iPod are.
2. Floola.com – From their web site:
   Floola is a freeware application to efficiently manage your iPod or your Motorola mobile phone (any model supporting iTunes except iPhone, iPod touch, nano 5G and latest iPod shuffle).

   It’s a standalone application that can be run directly from your iPod and needs no installation under Linux (any GTK2 distro), Mac OS X (10.3.9 or newer!) and Windows (98 or newer, including Vista and Windows 7).

3. iRip – This program costs $19.95
4. iPod Rip – This program costs $26
