MyNotes: Assessing Learning Tools

These are my notes from the article, 6 Tools for Assessing Learning. It suggests we need to update our assessment toolkit in the face of remote learning.

Four suggestions it makes include:

  1. Retellings: Invite students to retell info and then analyze what they say to see where they may be confused. It can be done with various tools like Seesaw and Flipgrid.
  2. Teachbacks: Encourage students to teach each other, and have them capture that. Why not give it a shot with RecordCast.com, a browser-based, free recording tool?
  3. Interactive Videos: Use tools like PlayPosit, EdPuzzle to embed questions in videos that students watch. Combine it with retrieval practice strategy to get fast results.
  4. Know/Show Charts: Use something like a T chart to capture what students know aligned to success criteria, and ways for students to share they know and have learned.
I thought these were great ideas worth sharing and they connect to Hattie’s work. Check out the article for a more detailed explanation and more suggestions.
