Chromebook Duet Case (Updated)

As I mentioned earlier this month, I took the plunge and invested in a Lenovo Chromebook Duet. Now, a few days later, I’m happy to report that it’s lived up to its hype. I have dropped my entire book collection into it, scores of PDF files, videos, and audio. The Duet has handled them all with aplomb.

What’s more, a work display test shows it works GREAT on wired ethernet via the adapter I picked up, as well as HDMI cable. The Chromebook side and the Android side work well together, and I get the best of both worlds.
Whew, I can breathe a sigh of relief, the Duet is everything I had hoped it would be EXCEPT in one area.

A New Case?

The Chromebook Duet keyboard with backing works great in a stable desk environment. However, it’s easy to make the wrong move, and the tablet portion will come unseated from the keyboard. I actually had the tablet flip backwards off my standing desk, like a swimmer off a high dive at the local pool. You can imagine my immediate worry that something might have broken or cracked.
Thanks to the thick books that I have stacked around my standing desk, the tablet had a soft landing. However, this convinced me, I needed a better case that would not inhibit the keyboard connection.
I decided I needed something a bit sturdier. And, I decided I didn’t want to use duct tape.

Solution

After a few minutes on Amazon, I stumbled on the Fintie Case, shown below:

Although they have various colors, I found the old Memo Composition book comforting. I’m hoping that this case will do the job. I’ll be sure to report back below and let you know. Some of the features include:
  • Specifically designed for Lenovo Chromebook Duet 2 in 1 Chromebook 10.1 inch CT-X636 (Part Number: ZA6F0031US and ZA6F0075US).
  • Premium synthetic leather exterior and soft microfiber interior. Prevent from finger prints, dirt, and scratches.
  • Unique design ensures the device to be used in multi-viewing angles.
  • Flip cover can be unfolded as a cushion for the keyboard, protect the keyboard from scratches. While Lenovo Chromebook Duet, the keyboard and the stand will be secured with a magnetic closure when close the flip cover.
  • The cover can be converted into two modes for different purpose.
Keeping my fingers crossed!

Update

The case works great, providing the kind of keyboard support and tablet connection that ensures it won’t flip off the table. I also love the Memo Composition look, as you can see above, that make it easy to work with. If I had to complain about something, it’s that the backflap isn’t attached to the tablet portion at all. This means, it can still flop over if the magnet comes “unstuck.” I wish there was some sort of velcro attached or something to lock it in place.
Aside from that, you can see how it works below…
