Differentiating Between Mastodon Instances

After exploring quite a few different Mastodon instances, I’ve settled on what I hope will be my “home” instances for now. I’ve divided them up into two areas, and from this point forward, I’ll be pruning my following list to reflect the differences.

Education Centric

Everything education-focused will be on Mastodon Education instance. Use my invitation to join. More information can be found online at:

For fellow educators, I definitely encourage you to stay connected using the Join Edutooters groups and sign up for the EduTooter list. The EduTooter groups include:
I recommend joining the new group.

Personal Mastodon Instance

Well, like anyone else, I have opinions..about politics, religion, Republicans, GOP, etc. I’ll be sharing those on a less education-focused instance that allows those things. This division is strictly arbitrary, of course, but it makes it easier for me to redirect certain content to one instance over another.
For now, that’s Zirk.us. Use my invitation to join.

  1. Many moons ago, when I joined Twitter, I was in Asia so I was awake when all the US ed techies were online. I could just about see tumbleweeds in there then. Is Mastodon like that for you early adopters?

  2. Ha! While Mastodon was a tumbleweed collector in the early days right up to November 1, about the time Elon Musk took over Twitter, it started to grow. The memberships have been increasing steadily as people have abandoned Twitter,or hedged their bets. Now, you can find lots of folks migrating to Mastodon.Whether they stay, who knows, but it's a nice diversion from Twitter algorithm and advertisements.See you there?Miguel – @mguhlin@mastodon.education
