A Change In Online Spaces

Today, new posts from my “new” website presence at MGlink.org (mguhlin.wordpress.com) should start to appear. I say “should” because when you’re launching a new website, sometimes things don’t go as well as you hope.

Farewell, Micro.blog

Jumping over to Micro.blog was a spur of the moment, spontaneous decision. A few days in, I knew I had potentially made a mistake. A year later, I’m sure of it.

As long-time readers know, I have been publishing my writing at various websites, including:

  • mglinks.org (the same address as my new site, less one “s”)
  • mgblog.org

Both of those sites necessitated new domain names because they were two blogs hosted by Micro.blogs. I had hoped that Micro.blogs would turn out to be a great place to be, but I eventually grew tired of the issues with markdown text not showing up right, themes corrupting, less than immediate publishing of the blog, super slow response time on Help requests (even those sent via email).

I’m sure most of the blame is my own since those folks are trying to do an amazing amount of work. In fact, I would only put blame on me. In the end, it doesn’t matter. I decided to leave. I’m not sure what will result with the old addresses

Finding an Alternative

As a result, I decided to make my stay at WordPress.com a paid one since I know how WordPress works (but don’t want to mess with hosting my own site). The difference in cost ends up being less, if you can believe that, than what I was paying for Micro.blogs.

While I am disappointed that my experiment with Micro.blogs didn’t work out as well as I hoped, again not necessarily the fault of the people there, I have had to move to a new domain here.

The New Website Address

The new website address is mglink.org

I may eventually get another that is more descriptive of Another Think Coming, or eventually get control over my mgblog/mglinks.org addresses, but for now, I have to go with what I can control and that is the mglink.org address.

Come along!
