Stand Up For Every Student #DEI #EduSky

I love this suggestion from The Humanist to reach out to local school districts. They offer a template for a letter, but I wanted something a bit more concise.

A little more revision to make this briefer, direct is in the works. In the meantime, allow me to echo their suggestion. It may feel a bit “drop in the bucket” but drops add up. It may feel a bit misdirected but this won’t be the only effort.

SUBJECT LINE: Stand Up for Every Student

Dear [Principal/Superintendent/School Board Member],

Keep Schools Safe and Welcoming

As a parent, educator, and community member, I am deeply concerned about recent White House orders that spread fear and pressure schools to pull back from supporting all students. While they don’t change the law, they undermine efforts to create inclusive learning environments.

Every Child Deserves to Thrive

Schools should be places where every student—regardless of race, background, or identity—can learn, grow, and reach their full potential. That includes ensuring they see themselves reflected in their education, understand our nation’s full history, and benefit from policies that uphold diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Take a Stand

I urge you to reaffirm our district’s commitment to safe, welcoming schools where all students are supported and respected. Please share this commitment publicly so families know our schools stand by every child.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
