I recently shared all the Moodle Modules I use, and then shared that on the TCEA Strategic Open Source SIG, asking for additional suggestions. Here is what Ken Task shared in response to my query:

Moodle add-on “favorites” … or have used before:

Covcell – has a couple of tools worth exploring … online audio and video conferencing
within Moodle. They are one of few that have space on Moodle.org:

Covcell tools use Red 5 (for streaming servers – audio/video conferencing

YouTube Block
Allows teachers and server admins to link to specific YouTube content.
Builds a play list which can be restricted to a course or shared … other courses can
use shared links. This is a way to get YouTube inside the ISD and by filters.
Filtering system allows ONLY the Moodle server a “pass” to acquire.
Since the play list have to be constructed by teachers there is accountability.

Certificates
Allows the printing/acquistion of a PDF certificate of training/completion of course.
Nice looking. Can have teacher electronic signatures and ISD seals or logo’s.
Has unique ability to require a number of other activities be completed before the
certificate may be obtained.

Game
For the younger set. Games (6 or 7 of them – like Hangman) can be tied to glossaries.

Flash Video
Allows one to link to Flash content at another location – which is quite a bit like
linking to a file.

Lightbox Gallery
A lightbox gallery resource allows you to display multiple images from a directory using the Lightbox2 Javascript libraries.

Mao (a play on “mayo” but stands for “Moodle Add On’s”) on/in Moodle

There is a section on using CVS for upgrading Moodles within a version
(such as 1.9.3 to 1.9.4) While Moodle.org describes a Windows way, it requires yet more additional software installed. Works like a charm on a Linux box, however.
One can even install a fresh copy (most recent version) of Moodle using CVS.
If one installs this way, easy to update!

Note that I’ve cut a few portions out of his email for items that weren’t strictly about Moodle modules. I haven’t tried the modules he recommends above and would love to hear your feedback on this or others that you’ve worked with!
