Will THIS tale end happily? Only you, fellow edubloggers, can decide that. Please post this on your blog.
This post originally posted at Tim Holt’s blog, Unintended Consequences. I steal it with impunity and his permission (grin). What a good sport he was when Janice Schlottmann and I appealed to his techie expertise as Tim waited for a Skype call from a Superintendent that never seemed to arrive.
The following is Tim Holt’s post….
What happens when a teacher comes up against a textbook company and it’s intellectual property protection clause? In this case, the teacher is left with little help from their education “partner” and is left to fend for herself. A three-way conversation between first grade teacher Janice Sloatman, Miguel Guhlin, and Tim Holt on an interesting dilemma.
Listen and think about what would you do?

Side issue here: What is truly a partner in education? If the textbook company was truly a partner with the school, then this would be a moot point.TBH

Miguel,Thanks for spreading the word. I have listened to the podcast and will pass the news on. May I add it to my blog and link it back to you and Tim Holt?

@DeanMantz Yes, definitely!!! All content published here is remixable. When I get my Mac hooked up, I’m going to strip the audio out of Tim’s podcast and post it, too.@TimHolt Can any large organization with a focus on “the bottom line–making money” really be a partner? There is always the drive to make money and that trumps the relationship that must be developed.Of course, that’s not entirely true. There are some organizations that have re-aligned themselves with the needs of their customers and making money at the same time…it’s a juggling act, a constant adjustment. However, when we think of nimble and flexible, textbook companies don’t come to mind. When I think of monolith, that’s when textbook comes to mind.It reminds me of the legislative panel and the comments made there by the legislators and how they will cease to exist. Here it goes:”There’s a reason to exist, even in an electronic content world, if the content you create goes beyond digitizing content and putting it into a PDF. There is just not enough value added if you’re just doing that.”
