Challenging Assertions

Would you agree with assertions like these about students learning online? Do you know of any research that support/disproves these assertions?

  1. Engagement in Social networking isn’t really learning.
  2. Social networking develops short attention spans that actually inhibit learning.
  3. Students, like adults, have to go over material multiple times to gain the benefits of the information and ideas expressed.
  4. Twitter and other “blogging” sites teach our students to filter, meaning they will skip what does not offer them instant gratification.

  1. Can't offer any advice on the student perspective, but my dissertation will address some of the assertions in relation to adult learning theory. 🙂
