Titanic Struggle Looming – Gaggle Challenges GoogleApps for Education (#tcea2010)

Jeff Patterson, Gaggle.net Founder and President

Listen to Jeff

This afternoon, I had a moment to touch base with Jeff Patterson (Founder/president of Gaggle.net) and he unveiled something that is bound to make Google shiver in its boots–Gaggle.net and Zoho Integration–you may recall I recently wrote about Zoho here–are lined up to provide schools safe, filtered access to tools. The Zoho suite is a great set of web-based collaboration tools, and definitely worthwhile!

Since 90% of Gaggle.net can be covered through eRate funds and with the ZohoIntegration, Gaggle has gotten a lot more competitive. Enough to take on GoogleApps for Education? Well, that remains to be seen! The question will be, can Gaggle.net offer at cost what GoogleApps for Education is giving away for free?

  1. Hmm, this I would prefer to Google Apps simply because Google is such a privacy invader. Would have to look at TOS.

  2. We've been using Gaggle for about 10 years, and are verging on using it as the front-end to a Google Apps acct for a middle school. This becomes a game changer. Now more than ever, security is a key thing. Teaching kids to manaage their own collaboration is a big draw…..but I guess we wait a few months……
