Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how mguhlin.org, operated by Miguel Guhlin (“we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit our website or use any of our applications, tools, and services (together, the “Services”). We keep this policy in plain language and collect as little personal information as we reasonably can.
By using the Services, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
Who This Applies To
This policy covers the mguhlin.org blog and the software tools we make available from it. Some tools may be static (they run entirely in your browser and send us nothing) while others may require an account or connect to third-party services you choose. Where a specific tool has different practices, those are noted on that tool’s page and take precedence over this general policy.
Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways:
Information you provide to us
- Account and contact information — such as a name, email address, or organization, if you create an account, subscribe, or contact us.
- Content you create or upload — text, files, images, or other content you add while using a tool that stores data.
- Communications — the contents of messages, feedback, or support requests you send us.
- Payment information — if you purchase a paid feature, payment is processed by a third-party payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data — pages viewed, referring pages, approximate location (derived from IP address), browser type, device type, and timestamps.
- Cookies and similar technologies — small files or browser storage used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand aggregate traffic. See Cookies and Analytics.
Information from third parties
- If you sign in through a third-party identity provider (for example, Google) or connect a third-party storage service (for example, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive), we receive only the information needed to complete that action, and only with your authorization.
Information We Do Not Collect
We do not:
- Sell your personal information.
- Use your content to train machine-learning or AI models.
- Build advertising or behavioral profiles about you.
- Collect sensitive categories of data (such as government IDs, health, or financial account details) unless you deliberately provide them for a specific, stated purpose.
How We Use Information
We use the information above to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services.
- Authenticate you and keep your account and content secure.
- Respond to your questions, feedback, and support requests.
- Understand aggregate usage so we can improve features and performance.
- Detect, prevent, and address abuse, fraud, security incidents, and technical problems.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We rely on the following legal bases where required (for example, under the GDPR): performance of a contract, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Services, your consent, and compliance with legal obligations.
Cookies and Analytics
Static pages of this site use privacy-respecting, aggregate visit measurement provided by our hosting platform (Cloudflare Pages) and do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Tools that require sign-in may set a small number of strictly necessary cookies or use browser storage to keep you logged in and remember settings.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the Services from working.
How We Share Information
We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers (subprocessors). Vendors that help us run the Services under contract — for example, hosting and content delivery (Cloudflare), source and file hosting (GitHub), email delivery, identity/single sign-on providers, cloud storage you connect, and payment processing (such as PayPal). They may process data only on our behalf and for these purposes.
- With your direction. When you choose to publish content or connect a third-party service, information flows as you request.
- Legal and safety. When we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or us.
- Business transfers. If the Services are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction; we will notify you of any change in control or use of your personal information.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
Data Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here, to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Content you create is retained until you delete it or your account is closed. Temporary sessions and browser storage expire according to each tool’s configuration. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information, including HTTPS/TLS in transit, access controls, and reputable hosting providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users and any authorities as required by applicable law, without undue delay.
Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information.
- Export/port a copy of your information.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising).
EU/UK (GDPR/UK GDPR): you may exercise the rights above and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To exercise any right, contact us at the address below. We will respond within the time required by law (generally within 30–45 days) and may need to verify your identity first.
International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States, and our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international transfers. By using the Services, you understand your information may be processed in these locations.
Children’s Privacy
The Services are intended for general audiences and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate consent. Where a tool is used in a school setting, the school or district acts as the party responsible for obtaining any required parental consent (for example, under COPPA and FERPA). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Third-Party Links and Services
Our Services link to and integrate with third-party websites and services we do not control. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we are not responsible for them. Review the privacy policy of any third-party service before providing information to it.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is no consistent industry standard for responding to these signals, we do not currently respond to them. We do not track you across third-party websites for advertising.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
