WordPress 2.8 Visual Editor Not Working

After upgrading (automatically and then, manually) to the latest version of WordPress 2.8, the Visual Editor stopped working. All I would see was a blank screen. The content was still there but the toolbar was missing and the text was white on a white background (unreadable). When I highlighted the text to see what was there, it appeared as HTML code.

I sent out a tweet for help and then remembered, “Google!” So Googled and read a few forums before stumbling upon this page with TechPavan referencing a blog post with the solution of installing the FCKEditor plugin for WordPress.

After I upgraded my wordpress to version 2.5, I fell off with one more problem. The rich text editor did not appear and I did not want to write each post as html code.It would be a tough matter to write all the posts as html and publish. Googled for about an hour and I got to know many are facing similar problems. So I am sharing the solution to help all others with same problem.

FCKeditor

The solution I found was that of using a wordpress plugin of FCKEditor which replaces the default editor by its own editor which is more powerful than the default one.

Download, install and activate the latest FCKEditor plugin for wordpress. This will install the powerful rich text editor on your wordpress and you can access the same on your write section.

I unzipped the download FCKEditor (pointedly ignoring it’s name) and then place the whole folder in the WordPress Plug-Ins directory/folder. It worked well and my content came back in normal color, as shown below:

  1. Well, the FCKEditor isn't perfect and works better if you go into the options and set it in Basic mode (less intrusive and the screen doesn't jump when you press ENTER).That said, what a pain! I wonder when they'll release an update to WP 2.8 to fix the issue.Glad it was helpful AND that you were reading,Miguel

  7. Thanks so much for taking the time to add this to your blog. If not for this aggravation w/ wp 8, I wouldn't have known about the plug-in, which is something I've always wanted, but didn't realize it. BTW, its also a great marketing tactic.Kath
