After reading this article, another data point suggests AI is Bad for learning:
New research published by the Centre for Economic Policy Research found that among 26,811 Chinese students in grades seven through 12, AI adoption increased homework scores by 18% and cut down completion time by 30%. However, within six months, monthly exam scores decreased by 20%, and college entrance examples fell by 18% to 24%—with scores reaching their worst after two years.

Maybe districts partial bans on GenAI didn’t go far enough when preventing students from accessing AI?
No doubt, we will spend some time figuring out how to reconcile this data with continued use to ensure Big Tech keeps getting their money from federal tax payers. The sad thing is all of this could have been done in a reasonable matter safeguarding K-16 education. But financial interests decided this was the quickest way to make money.
