Screen times bans are continuing to grow. Here’s another data point: Richardson ISD. And, you can’t blame the school district. No doubt, this is the work of antites (anti-technologists)
Richardson ISD will implement screen time limits in its schools next school year.
Students in grades 1-4 only get 20 minutes of dangerous exposure to screens. Fifth and sixth grades get 39 minutes a day. Upper grades make do with no more than 20 minutes per class via The Dallas Morning News.
Takes me 20 minutes to authenticate and login to a computer, and settle into a work groove. This is clearly the end of Ed Tech use by students in schools. Even with instant-on Chromebooks, a paper notebook and pen is faster to deploy. That’s probably the point.
I wonder if schools will be able to divert their tech budgets to pay for copy machine paper and maintenance. The paperless revolution is over, long live paper worksheets, paper composition books, pens, and pencils. My copy machine allotment was never equal to the task of duplicating popular short fiction stories or chapter books for all my classes…of course, I see now the error of my ways.
Why did we spend so much money putting tech in schools only to throw it away now? When these bans are done after elections, someone else will come along and say, “Time to replace all the equipment in schools.”
And that vendor may very well be contributing campaign donations to the legislators who fanned the flames of Ed Tech dissent. The rise of the AntiTEs.
What a waste of taxpayer money…
